Mangrove

Miami, Florida

Mangrove is a speakeasy style bar that fuses both flavors and ambiance in a multifunctional space, marrying laid back dining with sophisticated lounging in a nod to the richness and vibrancy of Jamaican culture.

Overview

Entered through a vintage metal elevator gate at the back of JRK!, Mangrove is an intimate Jamaican restaurant and lounge in Downtown Miami designed to transition from dinner to late night cocktails, music, and dancing. The darker counterpart to the bright restaurant that precedes it, Mangrove draws from Jamaican culture and landscapes alongside the eclectic interiors of the 1960s and 1970s.

Aged and patinated materials are layered against raw concrete walls to give the space a sense of character and permanence. The bar combines an aged zinc countertop, dark bamboo panels, and a back wall tiled in green dominoes, illuminated by vintage Peill and Putzler orange opaline pendants. In the dining room, a long green leather and dark walnut banquette sits beneath a gallery wall of Jamaican inspired artwork by Nick Mahshie. Opposite, an Amani Lewis painting brings together the oranges, yellows, and greens repeated throughout the interior.

Vintage furnishings, bespoke glass chandeliers, patterned cement floors, and lush greenery add to the collected quality of the space. A yellow tiled DJ booth backed by concrete breeze blocks and vinyl records supports the restaurant’s shift after dinner. The result is a richly layered setting shaped by Jamaican culture, the energy of Miami, and the interplay of food, art, and music.
